Recognized as one of the “Top 10 Small Cities” in the Southeast

Rome offers a strong business community, solid school systems, the beauty of the Appalachian foothills and the cultural choices unmatched by most cities of its size. Rome is a perfect blending of old and new; of traditions and advancements; of well-known faces and newcomers; and of yesterday and tomorrow.

Living in Rome means having fun being a “Roman”, taking classes at Berry College, Shorter College or Floyd College, feeling secure in receiving the best in medical care and participating in the various cultural and community events taking place each month in Rome. Join the Chamber, worship at a church of your choice, stroll the various parks and shopping areas and discover the part of Rome you’ll love to call home.

Rome is small enough to enjoy long leisurely walks, very little traffic, but large enough to offer the symphony, theater, arts and crafts, the finest in life-long education, sensitive and expertly-trained physicians and hospital staffs and a friendly population served by thriving businesses.

Rome can be divided into several sections, each offering something unique. The Northern part of Rome is a fast-growing area with shopping, recreation and historic homes. One of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges Berry College is located here as well as historic Oak Hill and the Martha Berry Museum.

The southern part of Rome is convenient to downtown and features the restored historic districts of homes. Also in the area are Floyd County Technical High, Coosa Valley Technical College and Floyd College.

The Downtown district will impress you with the restored “Victorian-era” streets and shops. You can shop and dine along this unique river district.

Three rivers meet in Rome. The Oostanaula and Etowah Rivers merge downtown to make the Coosa River. Each year along the banks of the rivers Romans enjoy fairs, arts and crafts shows, picnics and concerts.
Rome boasts the highest level of medical care including Floyd Medical Center, Redmond Regional Medical Center and the Harbin clinic. These facilities attract the nation’s top specialists.

The eastern part of Rome offers more suburban lifestyle with skateboarding and tennis facilities available. Soccer tournaments are held in the YMCA Sports complex located in this section of the city and the Senior Adult Recreation Center at Etowah Park offers many activities for the slightly older resident.

West Rome offers a multitude of parks including the Rolater Park, Coosa Lock and Dam and the Alto Park. West Rome is close to the Alabama border; so many residents take advantage of the lake and water sports available at nearby Lake Weiss.
